Question

How do I dispute a driving record with AAA?

AAA filed a report that I was the driver at fault in an accident when this was not the case. I want to dispute this since AAA made a mistake, but I'm not sure what to do.

If AAA reported something in error on your driving report, here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how to dispute it. First, pinpoint the issue. If it relates to a claim or roadside incident handled by AAA, gather any documents or communications you received from them.

Reach out to AAA’s customer service or your local club’s insurance department. Tell them what’s incorrect, and share proof supporting your case. Be clear and direct, and ask for the next steps to get it corrected. Keep in mind that if your collision coverage paid for your claim, then it will still be listed as an at-fault accident.

Contact LexisNexis if the error appears in an insurance report or quote (but not on your DMV record). LexisNexis provides consumer reports—like your CLUE Auto Report—which insurers use when calculating your rates or checking your claims history. If AAA reported an accident or incident to LexisNexis and it’s incorrect, you can:

  • Request a copy of your CLUE Auto Report
    • Then click "Request a Consumer Disclosure Report" to get a free copy of your report.
  • Dispute any inaccuracies directly with LexisNexis using their online process
    • Submit a dispute directly through the LexisNexis portal if you spot errors

If the error is on your official state driving record, contact your state DMV.
They are the only agency that can update or correct your official driving record, which law enforcement, courts, and some insurers use. You’ll typically need to submit a dispute along with documentation supporting your case.

Are you not sure where the error is? Start by getting your official DMV driving record and your CLUE report from LexisNexis. That way, you can see where the issue is showing up and direct your dispute to the right place. Good luck, and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

These repairs fall under comprehensive coverage and are often treated as “no-fault,” meaning they don’t count against you like an at-fault accident might. Small chip repairs are sometimes even free with no d…

Can I insure a car that is being financed by someone else?

Insuring a car you don't own can be tricky. If you're lucky, you should be able to insure the vehicle under your own policy without any issue from your insurance company. However, not every carrier offers this type of policy (called a non-owners policy) so you may need to do some research on what y…

Can I group multiple accidents into one claim?

Unfortunately, you would be filing a collision claim which would be categorized by your insurer as an at-fault accident. This will likely cause your rate to increase. If I have gap insurance and totaled my car, but there is no gap between insurance payment and remaining loan balance, do I get a refund?

Not all gap insurance is written in the same manner, so you may have to refer to your insurer to get more information. From my understanding, if you pay off the loan and didn't use gap insurance to do so, they will probably refund some premiums paid back to you. It doesn't hurt to call them up and …
