Question

Is Mile Auto legit?

I drive maybe 5,000 miles a year, so Mile Auto looked perfect, but now I’m wondering if it’s actually legit. I saw something about taking pictures of your odometer instead of using a plug-in or GPS — is that really how it works? And what happens if I forget one month?

Yep — Mile Auto is a real insurance company, just a newer one that focuses on pay-per-mile coverage. Instead of using a tracking device or GPS, they have you take a quick photo of your odometer each month to report mileage. That photo helps calculate your monthly bill, which includes a small base rate plus a per-mile charge.

If you forget to send the photo, they’ll usually estimate your miles based on your past driving until you upload the next one. But to keep your bill accurate, it’s best to send that picture on time.

The biggest draw for Mile Auto is that it’s private — no location tracking, just your mileage. The tradeoff is that, as a smaller company, their claims process isn’t as established or hands-on as the big insurers. Some drivers love the low costs and simplicity; others prefer a company with a local agent they can call.

If you’re mostly looking to save money because you don’t drive much, Mile Auto can be a great fit. If personal support and fast claims are your priorities, it might be worth comparing them with a few traditional insurers before you switch. You can also give our agents a call or compare online, and we can help you figure out your options.

Should I file a claim after hitting a deer with an old vehicle?

It really depends. In Arizona, a totaled vehicle is determined via a total loss formula. If this value is greater than or equal to the actual cash value of your …
