Question

Penn National’s mobile app/online tools?

Is Penn National’s digital platform reliable for policy changes like adding a driver, or will I always need to call my agent anyway? I like managing things myself and haven't needed to do much so far with them (I've been a customer for a couple years).

That's a common question with regional, agent-based insurers like Penn National. The short answer: you’ll probably still need to go through your agent for anything more than basic account maintenance.

Penn National’s website and app are helpful for the essentials (checking your policy, paying bills, and reporting a claim) but they’re not as full-featured as what you’ll find from big national carriers. You can’t currently add or remove drivers, change vehicles, or update coverages directly online. Those kinds of changes still route through your local agent so they can verify details and make sure coverage limits adjust correctly.

The trade-off is that you get a more personal touch. Many customers in Maryland say they like knowing their agent can walk them through rate impacts or discounts before making changes. The downside, of course, is that it’s less convenient if you prefer to handle everything digitally.

If you like managing things yourself, Penn National’s system might feel a little limited. But if you value having a dedicated agent who double-checks the details, especially when adding drivers or changing vehicles.

So while the app’s improving, for now, think of it as a companion tool, not a replacement for your agent.
