Question

Does car insurance cover vet bills for injured dogs?

Our dogs were injured in a car accident where the other driver was totally at fault. Does the at-fault insurance company have to pay all the vet bills or just what they deem is fair?

I'm sorry to hear about your accident, and I hope your dogs recover quickly!

Some car insurance companies do offer coverage for situations like this. For example, Erie Insurance provides up to $500 per pet if they're injured while riding in your vehicle during an accident.

Since this accident was someone else’s fault, you’ll want to contact their insurance company. The injuries to your pets may be covered under the property damage liability portion of the at-fault party’s policy. Be sure to gather all relevant information and receipts and share them with the adjuster to help ensure the damages are fully paid.

Which companies offer pet protection as part of a car insurance policy?

Several insurers offer pet injury protection, often as an optional add-on to your auto policy. Lemonade, for instance, offers an endorsement to help cover injuries or the loss of a pet after a car accident. Nationwide, Hanover, Progressive, and Chubb also provide coverage options that can support you if your pet is injured in an accident, depending on the endorsements or coverage levels in your policy.

This is also a great reminder for all of us pet parents: pet insurance can be a helpful addition to your insurance toolkit. More and more companies are offering it these days, and it can be relatively affordable depending on the coverage you choose.

Good luck, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Can a bank add insurance to my loan when I already have insurance?

This sounds like a processing error. Short of that, I would say that this issue is unfortunately too specific to your policy for me to accurately advise.
