Root isn’t quoting in my state anymore. Why?

Root isn’t quoting in my state anymore. Why? I thought I could get renters with them as well as my car insurance, but I guess it's only car insurance that's available in Virginia. Why doesn't every company have to do all their insurance types where they offer any policy at all?

You’re not the only one confused by this. Root has pulled back in some states before, and when they stop quoting, it usually means they’re pausing new business while they adjust pricing or strategy. It has nothing to do with you, it’s just a business move on their end.

As for renters insurance, companies don’t have to offer every kind of insurance in every state. Each product (auto, renters, home) has to be approved separately by each state’s insurance department, and some companies roll things out slowly. That’s why Root might offer renters in some states, but not Virginia yet.

If your goal is to bundle auto + renters in one place, check out State Farm, Nationwide, Progressive, Allstate, or Lemonade. All of these companies write renters in Virginia and bundle with auto. If Root becomes available again later, you can always switch.

If you want help comparing bundle options, The Zebra has licensed agents who can walk you through it without any pressure.
