Question

Safety’s quote is way cheaper, so am I missing something?

Safety gave me a really low car insurance quote, but I don’t see a lot of people talking about them. Are they legit, or is there a catch with the coverage or claims service?

Safety Insurance often gives great rates, especially for drivers in Massachusetts, Maine, or New Hampshire. They’re not a scam; they’re actually a well-established regional company that’s been around since the 1970s. The reason their prices seem low is that Safety focuses mainly on lower-risk local drivers, so they can offer smaller premiums than some national insurers.

Where people sometimes get tripped up is in the details of their policies. Things like rental car coverage or towing limits can be on the lower side unless you add endorsements, and reviews mention that claims communication can feel a bit slow. It’s not that they don’t pay out—it’s just that you might need to follow up more actively during the process.

Here’s how to make sure you’re getting the right value:

  • Ask your agent to walk through what’s included vs optional add-ons.
  • Check your rental reimbursement and comprehensive deductibles—those are the areas people overlook.
  • Make sure you understand your claim contact process—local agent vs. Safety’s central office.

If the quote looks good and you like having a local agent, Safety can be a solid choice. Just double-check the limits and you’ll likely find the savings are real. If you’re still comparing, there are other good regional carriers like Vermont Mutual or Hanover. If you want some help shopping around and comparing rates, our agents would be happy to help you navigate!
