Question

Does Shelter use local adjusters after a claim?

I had a bad experience with my last insurance company after a fender bender, and it took forever to get an adjuster out, and they were from a different state. I’m wondering if Shelter is any better about sending local people for claims, or if it’s the same kind of runaround? The last guy didn't seem to even know which city he was in.

This is a fairly common question after disasters, specifically, like big hail storms. One of Shelter’s strengths is that they still have local offices and resident adjusters in many of the areas they serve. That means when you file a claim, there’s a good chance you’ll be working with someone who lives nearby and understands the local repair shops and processes. For many customers, that makes the experience feel more personal and less like they’re waiting in line with thousands of others.

That said, it can depend on where you live. In larger service areas, adjusters are usually more available, while in rural areas response times can vary, especially after major storms. Compared to some bigger companies that centralize everything, Shelter generally offers more of a hands-on, community-based claims experience.

If local service is important to you, it’s worth asking your Shelter agent where the nearest claims office is located and how they typically handle response times in your region. That way you’ll know what to expect before you need it.

Keep in mind that after a big natural disaster where a lot of property is damaged, many insurance carriers outsource some of the work to independent adjusting firms because they simply don't have the number of people to respond on a huge scale. Where you're at in Colorado, this could be the case after something like a wildfire or a major hail event.
