Question

Who does Kemper insure?

I’ve been shopping for car insurance online and Kemper keeps showing up as one of my options. I don’t really know much about them, and I don’t see commercials like I do for GEICO or State Farm. Are they even available in AZ, and what kind of drivers usually go with Kemper?

Kemper is available in Arizona and in many other states, but you’re right — they don’t market themselves the same way as GEICO or State Farm. That’s because they’re more of a regional, nonstandard insurer. Instead of chasing every customer, they tend to focus on people who might have trouble getting a competitive quote from the big names.

Their “typical customer” is often someone with a less-than-perfect driving record, lapses in coverage, or someone who just needs the state minimum liability to stay legal. That doesn’t mean Kemper won’t write policies for safer drivers — but their niche is usually folks who don’t qualify for the very lowest-risk tiers at bigger companies.

So if you’re a safe driver, Kemper might not always be the cheapest option long term, but they can be a practical choice if you’ve hit some bumps with other insurers. Our agents are also here to help you figure out the right options if you're having trouble deciding on an insurer, or if you're considered "high-risk" and want some alternative choices.
