Question

Does Kemper take drivers with tickets and accidents?

I’ve got a couple speeding tickets and one at-fault accident in the past few years. Some companies flat-out denied me, but I heard Kemper might still write a policy. Do they actually cover drivers like me, or am I going to be stuck with crazy rates no matter what?

This is exactly the kind of situation where Kemper tends to step in. They’re known for writing nonstandard auto insurance, which basically means they’ll cover drivers who’ve had tickets, accidents, DUIs, or gaps in coverage (often considered "high-risk" cases where some of the bigger carriers might say no.

Now, that doesn’t mean the rates will be dirt cheap. Any company is going to charge more when there’s a higher risk on the record. But Kemper gives you an option to stay insured legally, often at a lower price than specialty high-risk companies.

The upside? Once you keep a clean record for a few years, you can usually shop around again and find cheaper rates with a different carrier. Many people use Kemper as a stepping stone while they work their way back into the “preferred driver” category.

Who does Kemper insure?

Kemper is available in Arizona and in many other states, but you’re right — they don’t market themselves the same way as GEICO or State Farm. That’s because they’re more of a regional, nonstandard insurer. Instead of chasing every customer, they tend to focus on people who might have trouble gettin…
