Your insurance should cover the damages minus your deductible. In this case, you would file a comprehensive claim for the damage. A comprehensive claim does not raise your rate as much as a collision would — about 4.35% for your first comp claim.

As a warning, they may investigate and take extra time for the claim to make sure there was no foul play. I would keep photos of the damage and try your best to document everything that happened.

Will GEICO increase my rates if I file a windshield claim?

This is a tricky question to answer. How a claim will impact your rate is specific to the coverage and company you have. Will my rate go up if I file a claim for a damaged side mirror?

Put simply, any time you file a claim, there is usually a rate increase. Since you don't know who it is that hit you, you would have to go through your coverage. Glass claims fall under a comprehensive claim, which tends to be small. However, even small claims can lead to a rate increase.I rec…

Do I have to file a claim with my insurance even when I'm not at fault?

I would not recommend speaking with your insurance company unless the other driver refuses to pay for the damages. Because you have the police report and hopefully the other driver's insurance information, you should call their insurance company and begin the claims process. If you do not have…
