Question

Will filing a homeowners claim affect your bundled auto insurance?

I have both my home and auto policies bundled with Plymouth Rock, mainly for the discount. So far, no issues. But I’ve been wondering if I ever had to file a homeowners claim, would that impact my car insurance too?

I get that they’re bundled, and like the slight savings, but I don’t really understand how connected they are behind the scenes.

With Plymouth Rock, bundling your home and auto insurance can save you money, but the policies are still separate when it comes to claims.

If you file a homeowners claim, it doesn’t automatically mean your car insurance rate will go up. The claim is tied to your home policy, not your auto policy.

That said, there can still be some connection.

Insurance companies often look at your overall claims history, not just one policy. So if you file multiple claims over time, it could affect how you’re viewed as a customer, even across bundled policies. Also, if you lose a bundling discount for any reason (like canceling one policy) that could affect pricing.

But in most cases, a single homeowners claim won't directly impact your auto premium or "transfer" to your car insurance. It may increase your homeowners insurance premium when you renew, though.

If you’re concerned, you can always ask your agent questions like:

  • How claims are tracked across policies
  • Whether bundling affects underwriting decisions
  • What could impact your renewal rates

The short answer: bundling connects your policies for discounts, not for claims. But your overall claims history still matters. I hope this helps!
