Question

Is a police report required when a parked car is hit?

My daughter was parked at work. When she got to her car after work, she saw that her car had been hit. She told her manager, but she did not file a police report. Is a police report required in order to be paid through an uninsured motorist claim? We are in Texas.

Texas law states you must file a police report if the accident resulted in physical injury (or death) or property damage exceeding least $1,000. If your daughter is filing an uninsured motorist claim (i.e., a hit and run), I recommend filing a police report. You can submit a Driver's Crash Report up to 10 days after the accident. Best of luck.
