Question

Does a vehicle need car insurance if its in storage in New Jersey?

We have an old car that belongs to our daughter who is working out of state but want to keep it in our home in case she needs it when she goes to grad school next year. Can we keep inside garage without driving it and not carry insurance. Is there any penalty in NJ in keeping the car registered without insurance but not drive it (and stored in a car garage)?

Every car that is registered needs to have insurance in New Jersey. Since you are not driving you can keep the state minimum liability on the vehicle. Most of the penalties would be for driving without insurance but you can not have the car registered without insurance. Unfortunately, there really isn't storage insurance in New Jersey, again you would want to just keep minimum coverage on the car. Good luck and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Why does a not-at-fault accident affect my insurance?

Furthermore, even if you aren't at fault in a crash, your insurance company can still be liable for your injuries or damage to your vehicle through your uninsured motorist coverage. This coverage is designed to cover you in the event the at-fault driver does not have any coverage or enough cover to pay for your losses.

What coverage do I need if I hit a deer?

Normally when you are driving and hit something in the road then the damage would be covered under collision. However, hitting a deer (or any other animal) is considered a comprehensive claim since it is an unexpected variable and falls under the category of an "act of god," much like hail damage or vandalism.

What can I do if someone hit my car and left a note but they won't answer or return my calls?

Your best bet would be to contact your insurance provider. They may even recommend that you contact the police to file a report about the incident.
