Got into an accident and didn't get their insurance info

My father was involved in a fender bender. He was at a stop sign and the driver behind him dinged him. My dad didn't get the other driver's insurance information, on the state registration information. What can we do? I think the damage will be around $500.

I recommend your father contacting his insurance company and informing them of the situation. Providing them with all available information including the other driver's state registration information. In order to register your vehicle, you first need insurance. So it's a good bet they have insurance and your insurance company can use their available resources to track them down. For more information, see our guide to filing auto insurance claims.

I would first try contacting the insurance company they gave you. It could be they are using a new card they received for their policy renewal that hasn't started yet. If they truly did not have insurance at the time of the accident, they will have to pay for the damages out of pocket. If that…

Do car insurance companies share information?

The new insurance company is likely to find out about the accident, but that will come from your driving reports when you buy your policy. What do I do if my car is hit by an object that came off of someone else's vehicle?

Filing a police report and contacting your insurance provider would be my recommendation. The driver of the truck should be responsible, but it may be di…
