Question

Will an unreported car accident affect my premium?

I'm trying to get car insurance for my new car but was wondering if my last car accident will affect my pricing even if no one was hurt and it wasn’t reported? I crashed my car on the side of the highway and no property was damaged. Then I left the scene and my car was towed, will it come back on my insurance?

If you were never cited for the accident and never filed a claim, there should be no insurance record of your accident. Insurance companies generally run two reports when you sign up for new insurance — your motor vehicle report (MVR) and another for claims history (CLUE). If they're clean, they should show no record of the accident and your rate should be unaffected.

If your insurance company has to pay out on a claim, it will impact your rates. If you have uninsured motorist coverage, the accident will only stay on your record for 3 years and will not impact your rates as much as if you don't. If you don't have uninsured coverage, but do have collisi…

Your best bet would be to contact your insurance provider. They may even recommend that you contact the police to file a report about the incident. Will my insurance company drop me for not changing my address when I moved?

Therefore, it will be up to your current insurance company to decide whether or not they will pay out on the claim. Unfortunately, if they do not you will be responsib…
