Question

Will an unreported car accident affect my premium?

I'm trying to get car insurance for my new car but was wondering if my last car accident will affect my pricing even if no one was hurt and it wasn’t reported? I crashed my car on the side of the highway and no property was damaged. Then I left the scene and my car was towed, will it come back on my insurance?

If you were never cited for the accident and never filed a claim, there should be no insurance record of your accident. Insurance companies generally run two reports when you sign up for new insurance — your motor vehicle report (MVR) and another for claims history (CLUE). If they're clean, they should show no record of the accident and your rate should be unaffected.

Hitting an animal in the road falls under the category of a comprehensive insurance claim because animals do not follow road laws and can't be expected to avoid cars or roadways. It's the same general principle as hail damage. The incident changes to an at fault accident when you swerve t…

Will I be able to get a new car after an accident?

Is accident forgiveness with Nationwide a good idea?

Accident forgiveness, which Nationwide offers as an optional add-on in many states, can keep your premium from going up after your first at-fault accident.
