Question

How long do I have in Illinois to add a new vehicle to my current insurance policy?

I picked up a new/used vehicle and have not yet added it to my current plan. I will be changing my coverage Thursday to a new insurance company. Do I need to contact my current plan or not? Will they have to cover me until Thursday anyway?

Typically, you have up to 14 days to add a new vehicle to your policy. Every company is different so always check with your specific insurance company for their guidelines. However, if you do not add the car to your current insurance and happen to get into an accident before your new policy starts, your old insurance company will not cover the damages since the car was never added. Hello, Since there is no damage to your vehicle, you would not need to file a claim. However, the person that you hit has the option to file a claim. You can offer to pay for the damages out of pocket to avoid the accident going on your record. Ultimately, it is up to the other party as to whether …

Do I have a legal three-day window to drive to NY in my new car without plates?

There is no legal window where you can drive without the plates. If you are buying through a dealership they should be able to assist you on behalf of the state of Virginia in obtaining a temporary plate. You would likely just need to show insurance at the point of sale to get that done. If you are…

Is there a grace period for buying car insurance in GA from private seller?

While all cars need to be registered and insured by law in Georgia, the amount of time you are allowed to drive a new vehicle before adding it to your car insurance policy depends heavily on who you are insured by: some companies give you 30 days, some don't even offer a grace period. Therefor…

What do I do if my car is hit by an object that came off of someone else's vehicle?

Filing a police report and contacting your insurance provider would be my recommendation. Doing this allows the police to search for the driver pulling the trailer while your insurance company starts the repair process on your vehicle. The driver of the truck should be responsible, but it may be di…
