Question

Is it worth filing a claim for a scratch on my car that happened when it was parked?

I was parked on the street for a few hours and came back to a scratch from my back driver-side door to my bumper. It isn't big but it's noticible and it bothers me. What will happen if I file a claim?

If the scratch was the result of vandalism and not caused by another vehicle then filing a comprehensive claim should have little to no impact on your future rates. This also means that you will have to pay your comprehensive coverage deductible for the repair. I would recommend getting a repair estimate first since your company wouldn't pay for the claim unless it costs more than your deductible.

If someone keyed my car and I file a claim, will that make my insurance go up?

I would recommend getting a repair estimate first. This way you will have more information to base your decision on.

In the state of MA, can I suspend my car insurance for a few months?

While the state does not actively monitor drivers' compliance with insurance laws, Massachusetts does require that vehicles be insured while driven on the road. Compliance monitoring is done through traffic stops, after accidents, and at the time of registering or renewing the registration on a vehicle.
