Question

Is it easier to use an agent to get Acuity or find insurance online?

I’ve always handled my insurance online—quotes, policy changes, everything. Now I’m getting quotes from Acuity, but it looks like they only work through independent agents and not fully online. I’m not sure how I feel about that. Does having an agent really help, or is it just more middleman hassle? I want to know as much as I can about switching to Acuity from Progressive and what it will actually be like.

Acuity does work through independent agents, but that doesn’t automatically mean more hassle. This comes up a lot from people who are used to self-managing everything online. Let's look at a few of the differences so you can get a better idea of what to expect if you're using a local agent versus an online-focused company.

Strong points
  • Actual human help with claims
People like having a real agent and adjuster instead of being bounced around call centers.
  • Better coverage setups
Agents catch gaps online quotes miss—like uninsured motorist limits, rental car coverage, or roadside.
  • Policy changes are still easy
Most agents handle updates over text or email, so you don’t have to schedule calls to add a car or driver.
Trade-offs
  • Quotes aren’t instant
Unlike GEICO or Progressive, Acuity quotes go through an agent, so the process isn’t “click and done.”
  • Everything runs through an agent
If you want 100% online, no-human interaction insurance, Acuity will feel traditional.
  • Technology isn’t their focus
The website and app work fine for payments and ID cards, but they’re not as modern as some competitors.

If you value service and good coverage, Acuity and an agent is usually a win. If you want everything digital and instant, you may be happier with a direct company like Progressive or Lemonade.

If you’re still deciding, you can reach out to our agents here at The Zebra and they can shop around with you, go over options, and help you decide on a plan of action for coverage. I hope this helps!

Mile Auto or regular insurance?

Mile Auto is still "real" car insurance, just billed differently. Instead of paying a flat premium like you do with traditional insurance, you pay a base monthly rate plus a per-mile fee. That’s why it can be such a good deal for low-mileage drivers. With regular insurance, you pay the same amount e…

Is Mile Auto legit?

Yep — Mile Auto is a real insurance company, just a newer one that focuses on pay-per-mile coverage. Instead of using a tracking device or GPS, they have you take a quick photo of your odometer each month to report mileage. That photo helps calculate your monthly bill, which includes a small base r…

Can I remove a ticket for no insurance if I get insurance now?

No - even if you had a policy begin that day, it would not help getting your ticket dismissed. Because insurance is required in your state, you will still need to have insurance. I recommend getting a car insurance policy as soon as possible to avoid any penalties. Furthermore, you will have to sho…

How does Acuity handle hail surge?

Acuity actually handles major hailstorms better than some companies because they quickly bring in catastrophe response adjusters and team up with local repair shops to fast-track estimates. You’ll still wait longer than usual after a major storm (realistically, 7–14 days for inspections in busy are…
