Question

Who pays for hit and run damage if there's no UMPD coverage in NY?

I just moved to NY from NJ. I just realized they don't offer Uninsured Physical Damage coverage as we did in NJ. So who pays for Uninsured Physical Damage to my car?

Uninsured Motorist Property Damage (UMPD) is not a coverage that is offered in New York. If your policy has collision coverage, you can now use that to repair any damages from a hit-and-run. Or if the situation calls for it, you can also take legal action against the at-fault party. For more information, see our guide to uninsured motorist coverage.

Good luck and if you have any additional questions don't hesitate to ask.

Is a hit and run a comprehensive or collision claim?

It would be covered under collision coverage. Collision covers damages anytime the car collides with another object. Comprehensive coverage will cover other damages to the car that does not involve a collision such as, fire, theft, or vandalism. Since it was a hit and run, you can also use uninsure…

If I'm the victim of a hit and run will my rate increase?

The accident will show up on your record. How it appears on your record depends on what coverage paid for your repairs. If you have uninsured motorist coverage (which covers a hit a run) and this coverage was used to pay for the damages, the accident will be listed as not-at-fault. Not-at-fault acc…

Can I get car insurance if my spouse has a revoked license?

Most companies will not insure a driver with a revoked license, even if there is a driver on the policy whose license is valid. Your spouse must be listed on your policy since you are married, but she does not have to be covered as a driver. You can request to have your wife excluded from coverage …
