Question

Can Travelers use satellites or drones to look at my house?

I read that Travelers and other insurers use satellite images to evaluate homes. I'm a customer but haven't made a claim before. Are they actually reviewing my property regularly, even though I'm a "good" customer? Should homeowners be worried about surprise cancellations?

Yes, Travelers, like most large home insurers, uses aerial and satellite imagery as part of underwriting. They may review roof condition, tree overhang, or visible exterior risks, especially around renewal. It helps them spot potential issues without sending someone to every home.

But it’s usually a screening tool, not an automatic cancellation decision.

If something raises a question, Travelers will typically send a notice asking for repairs, updated photos, or clarification. You’re usually given time to respond. It’s not common for a policy to be canceled without warning based on one image alone. Make sure your contact information is up to date and open insurer mail promptly, especially near renewal.

It’s also worth noting that aerial technology can come into play during a claim. If you file a roof claim and an adjuster visits your property, they may use a drone to get a better view of shingles, especially if the roof is steep or unsafe to walk. That’s usually about safety and accuracy, not surveillance. It allows them to document damage clearly without risking injury.

And this isn’t unique to Travelers. Most major home insurers now use some form of aerial imagery in underwriting and claims.

If you’re concerned about an older roof, ask your agent what standards Travelers looks for and whether documentation, like a recent inspection, would help. Technology has changed how homes are evaluated, but staying informed and responsive is usually enough to avoid surprises. If you decide you want to shop around with different companies and compare coverage and price, our licensed agents can help you out with that, too.

Hello, Since there is no damage to your vehicle, you would not need to file a claim. However, the person that you hit has the option to file a claim. You can offer to pay for the damages out of pocket to avoid the accident going on your record. Ultimately, it is up to the other party as to whether …

My musical equipment stolen from friend's house covered by insurance

This can be tricky. From my experience, most home insurance policies will cover stolen property even if it's not the property of the named insured (your friend) but I would consult their policy declarations page to be sure. The tricky thing has to do with the value of the assets. If your musical eq…
