Where Car Repairs Hit Drivers' Wallets Hardest
Having your car break down is never fun, especially when you get the repair estimate from your mechanic. Wondering if it's just you, or if everyone feels that way? A big contributing factor to that sticker shock could be where you live. We looked at the 10 most populous cities in the U.S. to find where car repairs cost the most.
We reviewed four different types of repairs, using the highest end of the estimate range:
- Brake hose replacement for both front sides
- Alternator replacement
- Transmission replacement
- Average repair cost due to road quality
Then we compared each of those figures to the MSA's median household income to see where car repairs hurt drivers' wallet the most. Check out the 10 most expensive cities, plus a roundup of the cheapest 10 cities at the end.
