Question

What do I do if my car is hit by an object that came off of someone else's vehicle?

My wife was on the highway when something flew off a semi truck and hit her SUV. We took down the plate number but aren't sure who will be responsible for the damage since the driver didn't even stop. What should we do?

Filing a police report and contacting your insurance provider would be my recommendation. Doing this allows the police to search for the driver pulling the trailer while your insurance company starts the repair process on your vehicle. The driver of the truck should be responsible, but it may be difficult to locate that person so you should file the claim with your company soon to have the repair process started rather than waiting on the other driver. I hope this helps and best of luck!

What happens if you hit a rental car?

Good question! The claims process after hitting a rental vehicle would be the same as hitting a vehicle that is owned by another person, so you should still contact your auto insurance provider and notify them of the accident. Who really handles my claim, my agent or National General?

That’s a great question! Many companies (like National General) work with independent agents, which is convenient but can also be slightly confusing. Your independent agent is your main contact for getting your policy set up, making changes, and filing a claim. Once that claim is submitted, though,…
