Question

Why is car insurance so expensive in Kentucky?

I only paid like $200 for car insurance in Indiana and moved to bfe in KY and now I'm nearly paying the same amount per month! My car, driving record, credit history, etc haven't changed since then. The only thing that changed is moving to Kentucky.

Kentucky is much more expensive due to their insurance laws. Indiana only requires you carry liability insurance. KY has a law that requires you to carry Personal Injury Protection. This covers medical costs regardless of fault in an accident. You may hear people call it "no-fault" Insurance. This coverage tends to cost a lot more than standard liability insurance. This is the increase you are seeing on new quotes.

Can I sue if a ceiling collapsed on me after repairs?

First off, I'm sorry to hear that happened and I hope your brother is okay. In that situation, you would want to seek legal advice given there are several variables at play. The fault might be shared by both the landlord and the repair company but an insurance adjuster would be the one to dete…

I swerved to miss a deer in the road, wrecked my car, and now my insurance company is saying that I'm considered at fault. Why is that?

Hitting an animal in the road falls under the category of a comprehensive insurance claim because animals do not follow road laws and can't be expected to avoid cars or roadways. It's the same general principle as hail damage. The incident changes to an at fault accident when you swerve t…

Fault when I was towing someone else's trailer

This can really depend on a number of things. Fault can only be determined by a claims adjuster who has reviewed the accident and any corresponding documentation. If you are at fault in the accident, your insurance will only pay for the damages you caused to the other car in the accident. The owner…

Do I have to file a claim with my insurance even when I'm not at fault?

I would not recommend speaking with your insurance company unless the other driver refuses to pay for the damages. Because you have the police report and hopefully the other driver's insurance information, you should call their insurance company and begin the claims process. If you do not have…
