Question

Why is car insurance so expensive in Kentucky?

I only paid like $200 for car insurance in Indiana and moved to bfe in KY and now I'm nearly paying the same amount per month! My car, driving record, credit history, etc haven't changed since then. The only thing that changed is moving to Kentucky.

Kentucky is much more expensive due to their insurance laws. Indiana only requires you carry liability insurance. KY has a law that requires you to carry Personal Injury Protection. This covers medical costs regardless of fault in an accident. You may hear people call it "no-fault" Insurance. This coverage tends to cost a lot more than standard liability insurance. This is the increase you are seeing on new quotes.

There are many different reasons that your insurance rates can increase. Sometimes there is even more than one reason the rates go up. Having a not-at-fault accident can impact your rates. However, it would not impact your rates as much as it would if it was an at-fault accident. The not-at-fault a…

How can I get a not at fault accident charged off my driving record?

If your insurance company has to pay out on a claim, it will impact your rates. If you have uninsured motorist coverage, the accident will only stay on your record for 3 years and will not impact your rates as much as if you don't. If you don't have uninsured coverage, but do have collisi…

Why am I at fault if I swerved to miss a car that ran me off the road?

In most single-vehicle accidents, the driver involved is normally considered at-fault because there simply isn't another person on which to place blame. The situation might have very well gone in your favor if the other driver had made contact with your vehicle, but it would be next to impossi…
