Question

Why is car insurance so expensive in Kentucky?

I only paid like $200 for car insurance in Indiana and moved to bfe in KY and now I'm nearly paying the same amount per month! My car, driving record, credit history, etc haven't changed since then. The only thing that changed is moving to Kentucky.

Kentucky is much more expensive due to their insurance laws. Indiana only requires you carry liability insurance. KY has a law that requires you to carry Personal Injury Protection. This covers medical costs regardless of fault in an accident. You may hear people call it "no-fault" Insurance. This coverage tends to cost a lot more than standard liability insurance. This is the increase you are seeing on new quotes.

I would not recommend speaking with your insurance company unless the other driver refuses to pay for the damages. Because you have the police report and hopefully the other driver's insurance information, you should call their insurance company and begin the claims process. If you do not have…

How can I get a not at fault accident charged off my driving record?

If your insurance company has to pay out on a claim, it will impact your rates. If you have uninsured motorist coverage, the accident will only stay on your record for 3 years and will not impact your rates as much as if you don't. If you don't have uninsured coverage, but do have collisi…

Does it cost more to insure a turbo engine vehicle than a non-engine car?

Most insurance companies will charge more for a turbo engine if the VIN identifies it as such — since it has more power and speed, the risk of a claim is going to increase. The same goes for luxury or modified vehicles. Some companies may even refuse to quote it depending on the make and model. If …
