Question

Does Chubb insure homes in California?

My homeowners insurance just got nonrenewed because of wildfire risk (I'm in Orange County), even though I’m not right up against the canyons. I’ve heard Chubb might still write policies in California, but I’m not sure if they’ll even consider my house or if they only cover super high-end homes. Can you tell me if Chubb insures homes here?

Yes, Chubb does write homeowners insurance in California, though availability can vary depending on your location, property value, and fire risk. Because California has seen so many wildfire-related losses, a lot of carriers have scaled back coverage in higher-risk ZIP codes. Chubb is one of the insurers that still provides coverage for many of those properties, but policies are generally aimed at higher-value homes and often include broader protection than a standard homeowners policy.

For example, Chubb’s Masterpiece homeowners program typically offers:

  • Extended replacement cost coverage (to rebuild your home even if costs exceed the policy limit).
  • Cash settlement option if you decide not to rebuild after a total loss.
  • Coverage for valuables and collections (art, jewelry, wine, etc.) that goes beyond what most carriers offer.
  • Risk consulting services to help identify things like fire, water, or security vulnerabilities before they become big problems.

The trade-off is that Chubb policies usually cost more than a standard policy, and they may not be available for every home in wildfire-prone regions. But for homeowners who want more protection, personalized claims handling, and higher limits, Chubb can be one of the few carriers still writing in parts of California.

If you’d like, one of our agents can check availability in your ZIP and walk you through how Chubb compares with other options.
