Question

I'm a Farm Bureau member, but I'm moving states. Can I take my insurance with me?

I have my home and auto insurance through Kentucky Farm Bureau, but I’m relocating for work later this year. I’ll be moving out of Kentucky (but I'm not sure exactly where yet), and I’m not sure how that affects my coverage.

Since I’m already a member, can I keep my policy when I move, or do I have to start over with a new company in the new state? I’d prefer to keep things simple if possible, but I don’t know how Farm Bureau works across state lines.

Kentucky Farm Bureau insurance is state-specific, so you generally can’t take the same policy with you if you move out of Kentucky.

Each Farm Bureau company operates at the state level, which means Kentucky Farm Bureau policies are designed for risks, rules, and regulations within Kentucky. If you move to another state, you’ll usually need to get a new policy from either the Farm Bureau agency in your new state (if available) or a different insurer entirely.

The good news is that your membership may still help you transition. In many cases, your local agent can guide you on next steps or help connect you with options in your new state.

From a practical standpoint, here’s what to plan for:

  • Your current homeowners policy will end once you move
  • You’ll need a new policy that meets your new state’s requirements
  • Coverage options and pricing may look different

This can also be a good opportunity to compare coverage and make sure your new policy fits your situation, especially if your home, location, or risks are changing.

Before you move, it’s a good idea to:

  • Ask your agent when your current policy will end
  • Get quotes lined up in your new state
  • Make sure there’s no gap in coverage between homes

While you can’t directly transfer the same policy, the transition is usually straightforward with a little planning. Moving is also a great time to shop around a bit and compare rates; sometimes switching companies can end up saving you quite a bit, so it's worth looking into once you figure out exactly where you'll be. I hope this helps!
