Question

Will Hanover cover manufacturer's parts after an accident?

I just got a newer SUV, and my current insurance company told me they’d only cover repairs with cheaper aftermarket parts if I have an accident. I’ve heard Hanover has something called “Prestige.” Is that actually better, or just a fancy name? I had an accident years ago, and it was a mess dealing with my other company. I felt like they cut corners on the repair job.

Great question, this is actually a common concern. Hanover’s Prestige option is designed for people with newer or higher-end cars who want better protection than a standard policy usually offers.

Here’s what makes it different:

  • OEM parts: Prestige usually covers original manufacturer parts if your SUV needs repairs, so you don’t get stuck with lower-quality substitutes.
  • Repair choice: You have more say in where your car gets fixed, instead of being limited to a small list of shops.
  • Extras: Some Prestige packages also include things like new car replacement, extra rental coverage while your car is being repaired, or perks like deductible “credits” if you stay claim-free.

On the flip side, it does usually cost more. Hanover’s premiums tend to be a little higher in general, and Prestige adds to that. And since Hanover doesn’t sell directly online in every state, you’ll often need to work with an agent to see exactly what’s available for your SUV in your area.

So is it worth it? If having OEM parts and more repair flexibility matters to you — especially with a newer car — Prestige can be a solid upgrade. If cost is the bigger concern, it might not feel as necessary. You can always talk to other companies about their options for endorsements or higher coverage amounts to see what else is out there other than Prestige.
