Question
Do I have to pay a deductible if I caused an accident?
I was backing up and hit another car with my bumper. There was no damage to my truck, but I broke their front bumper. When they file a claim with my insurance company, will I be required to pay my deductible?
Answer
If you do not file a claim to have your car repaired you do not have to pay your deductible. Your liability insurance will pay for the damages to the other vehicle. Liability coverage does not have a deductible, meaning you will only pay a deductible to have your car repaired if your comprehensive or collision coverage pays for the damages. Good luck and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Check out our guide to When and How to File a Car Insurance Claim (featuring a claims calculator) for more information.
