Question
Why does my premium change when I change my address?
I moved from one part of the city to another but it wasn't very far away. I now live downtown and my insurance skyrocketed. I feel like it shouldn't impact it that much, seeing as the vehicle is the same and I didn't add any drivers to the policy. What gives?
Answer
Insurance is zip code specific, so moving from one zip code to another can cause your premium to change. Especially if you move into a more crowded urban area (like a downtown area) because there are new factors of risk your insurance company has to compensate for such as increased drivers, poor infrastructure, crime, and vandalism. Your best bet is to compare auto insurance coverage from as many companies as possible.
