Why is it so hard to get updates on my Shelter claim?

Small parking lot hit-and-run, filed a claim with Shelter, and now I’m getting radio silence—voicemail, email, nothing. Is this normal with them, or did my claim just fall into a black hole?

Unfortunately, slow follow-up is pretty common once a claim gets assigned and the adjuster is waiting on reports or repair estimates. Shelter does lean on local service, but claim communication can still get spotty if you don’t stay on top of it. The best move right now is to loop your Shelter agent in—agents actually have access to internal claim notes and can nudge adjusters when calls go unanswered. You also have a relationship with the agent from when you became a customer, so their goal is really to help you out whenever possible.

Also, ask your adjuster (or agent) for these two things in writing:

  • A claim timeline
  • Your next required step

This keeps your claim moving and prevents it from getting buried. If things still stall, request a claim supervisor review, because that usually speeds things up. If you’re feeling stuck or considering other insurance options after this claim, it might also be a good time to compare how other companies handle communication before you renew.
