Question

Does Auto-Owners have apps and other technology?

I’ve been thinking about switching to Auto-Owners because the rates look good, but I’m worried their technology won’t be as modern as what I’m used to. Should I be concerned?

Auto-Owners does have a mobile app, but it’s not as advanced as what you might see from bigger insurers. You can handle the basics — things like paying your bill, pulling up digital ID cards, filing simple claims (like glass damage), and checking claim status. You can also request roadside assistance through the app.

Where Auto-Owners can feel limited is with bigger changes. If you want to adjust coverage, add a driver, or make more complex updates, you’ll usually need to work through your local agent. Unlike some other carriers in Michigan, Auto-Owners doesn’t currently promote a telematics program for tracking driving habits, so if that’s important to you, it may be a drawback.

That said, many Michigan drivers like Auto-Owners because of its strong agent support, competitive rates, and solid claims reputation. If you’re comfortable doing some things through an agent instead of all through an app, the tradeoff may be worth it.

If you haven't made a decision yet, I recommend getting multiple quotes from several different companies. Then, compare your coverage and rates line-by-line to really see what you're getting. Ask questions about technology if that's your main priority. When you're ready, giveour in-house agents a call or compare rates online to feel confident in your coverage choice.

Unfortunately, slow follow-up is pretty common once a claim gets assigned and the adjuster is waiting on reports or repair estimates. Shelter does lean on local service, but claim communication can still get spotty if you don’t stay on top of it. The best move right now is to loop your Shelter agen…

Westfield penalties compared to other companies

For most drivers, Westfield’s pricing for minor mistakes like a speeding ticket or small accident tends to land right around the national average, sometimes even a bit lower. Are pay-per-mile companies worth it if my driving changes a lot?

It depends. Pay-per-mile companies like Mile Auto and Metromile can definitely save money if you’re consistently under the national average (about 12,000 miles a year). Since you’re charged for the miles you drive, the fewer miles, the lower the bill. But the key word here is consistency. If your mi…
