Is Auto-Owners as good as big insurance companies?

Hey, I’m new to all this insurance stuff. I saw Auto-Owners has good prices, but do they even have an app or anything? I don’t wanna have to call people for every little thing.

Auto-Owners is one of the largest insurers in Indiana, and they’re well regarded for both their pricing and their customer service. But this is a question that comes up fairly often with newer drivers. And yes, they've got an app! It may not be as "fancy" as bigger companies, but it should help eliminate the need to call often.

Unlike some national carriers that run everything through call centers, Auto-Owners works mainly through local independent agents, which means you’ll usually have someone nearby who can answer questions, explain your coverage, and guide you through a claim.

Here’s a breakdown of what Indiana drivers typically like about them:

  • Price & discounts: They’re often competitive, especially if you have a clean driving record. Auto-Owners also offers common discounts like bundling home and auto, good student, safe driver, and even a unique perk where your collision deductible is waived if you collide with another Auto-Owners customer.
  • Claims: For straightforward claims, the process is usually smooth, and your agent is there to help coordinate. Larger or more complex claims can still take time, but Auto-Owners has strong financial ratings and a reputation for paying claims.
  • Coverage options: Beyond basic liability, you can add extras like roadside assistance, rental reimbursement, gap coverage, and their “Personal Auto Plus” package, which bundles a handful of popular protections.
  • Customer service: They consistently perform well in regional satisfaction surveys, especially in the Midwest. Their mobile app handles basics like digital ID cards, payments, and simple claims, but many policyholders rely more on their agent for service.

So, if you’re looking for a balance of affordability, solid coverage options, and someone local to walk you through the details, Auto-Owners is a strong choice in Indiana. If you prefer everything to be app-based and digital, you might find them a little less modern than some bigger carriers. If you're ready to shop around and compare options we're here to help you find rates and coverage to meet your needs.
