An IID, or ignition interlock device, is usually only required if you own a vehicle. I would contact a lawyer because I (an insurance agent) cannot answer this for you. You might be able to get your IID requirement waived if you submit a declaration of non-ownership. This states you do not own a vehicle, don't operate anyone else's vehicle, and do not operate an employers vehicle. From here, you can get a non-owners policy and satisfy your SR22 requirement.

Can I insure a car that is being financed by someone else?

Insuring a car you don't own can be tricky. If you're lucky, you should be able to insure the vehicle under your own policy without any issue from your insurance company. However, not every carrier offers this type of policy (called a non-owners policy) so you may need to do some research…

If my friend gets a ticket while driving my uninsured car, who will it go to?

If your friend was pulled over without insurance, they would be the one to receive the ticket. However, if they caused an accident, the other party may be able to come after you AND your friend for damages. This is because you are the owner of the car and required by law, as an owner, to have insur…

What do I do if I don't have a car but am required to have an SR22 and an ignition interlock?

You should be able to purchase a non-owners insurance policy and have an SR22 attached to that policy to meet the state requirement. It would be impossible to install an interlock device if you don't have a vehicle so I would recommend contacting your probation officer or attorney to discuss y…

Do I still have to pay a deductible for a hit and run incident?

In the case of a hit-and-run, if you filed a police report and have uninsured motorist coverage, this could be used to cover the damages. This is additional coverage that must already be on your policy. It could also be covered by the collision portion of your insurance, but keep in mind your premi…
