Question

Can I insure my wife's car if the title is in her name?

She owned the vehicle before we were married so the title is in her name. We have been married for 2 years and she purchased a new vehicle so I will be driving the old one. Can I take out a policy in my name?

If you are married then there shouldn't be any issue with you insuring the vehicle. If the registration is also in her name then she will need to be listed on the policy. In fact, a married couple generally qualifies for lower rates than people listed on separate policies so it would make the most sense for both of you to be insured under the same policy. You'll likely pay less together than you would separately. I recommend comparing rates with as many companies as possible to find your best option.

If I backed into my husband's motorcycle, will we have to pay two deductibles?

If you have collision coverage on both policies then it is likely that the damage will be covered. However, since you two are married your liability will not cover the damage to your husband's motorcycle since you are not unrelated third parties. This basically means that you will probably hav…

Will my spouse, or myself, get the best rate for insuring our shared car?

This is an excellent question! Insurance is very complex, so trying to find the best rate can be a challenge. In this instance with both you and your wife having clean records and being close in age, the rate shouldn't be too much different if you were to switch out who the primary driver is on you…
