Comparing car insurance rates: Allstate vs. Farmers

Allstate vs. Farmers: prices by credit level

If you have very bad credit, Farmers could be a better option for you. On average, Farmers offers cheaper premiums than Allstate for prospective clients with credit scores of 579 or less. Insurance shoppers with extraordinary credit — a score of 800-plus — should consider View average insurance rates by credit tier for Farmers and Allstate below.

Allstate vs. Farmers: costs for high-risk drivers

If you are carrying an at-fault collision, speeding ticket, reckless driving citation, or DWI on your résumé, Farmers could be a better choice than Allstate. Every car insurance company will handle driving offenses differently, so always do your due diligence and compare quotes to find out which insurer is best for you.

COMPARING AUTO INSURANCE RATES FOR BAD DRIVERS: Farmers VS. Allstate
ViolationAllstate avg. annual premiumFarmers avg. annual premium

Reckless driving$3,388$4,636

Allstate vs. Farmers: rates by age

Auto insurance companies use a driver's age as an estimator of risk, assigning rates accordingly. An insurance policy is typically more expensive for young drivers — thanks to their inexperience — and most affordable for middle-aged drivers. Because every insurance company evaluates age tiers uniquely, it's worth doing some comparison shopping.

As a general rule, teen drivers should choose Allstate before Farmers: Allstate offers average yearly savings of $76, compared to Farmers.

Recent QuestionsDo I have to list my spouse as a driver?
You do have to list your spouse on the policy but many companies will allow you to exclude your spouse as a driver. Keep in mind that unless your spouse has a poor driving history, bad credit, or an expensive car, it's usually a sensible decision to add them since most insurance companies offer a discount on a joint policy.
Can I still be on my parent's car insurance?
Insurance is zip-code specific so your policy needs to be rated for the zip-code you're living in - so, basically, you would need to get your own insurance. If your parents own the vehicle and it is registered to them, they would be listed under an "additional interest" in the policy as they own the vehicle. Because of your age, you might have some difficulty finding car insurance, so here is our guide to shopping for car insurance for 22-year-olds.
An automated security gate hit my door, should I file a claim or get them to pay for the damages?
It's unlikely to company will pay for damages to your vehicle because, as you stated, you misjudged where the gate would open to. In terms of filing a claim with your insurance company, I recommend getting an estimate first to see how much the damage will cost.
Can an insurance company force add me to a policy even if I do not drive?
Insurance companies generally require any household member of driving age be listed on a policy. Policyholders normally have the option, however, to "exclude" anyone they don't want added to their policy.
See More Questions
Are some insurance providers better suited to my needs than others to get the best rate?
Because most coverage options can be matched across insurance companies, I think what you are really looking for is the best customer service/claims support for the best cost. Right off the bat, I know Geico probably wouldn't be an option for you with a leased vehicle.
Does Farmers allow exclusions?
While I do not work for Farmers, it has been my experience that they do allow exclusions. Usually, you will need to call your agent or a customer service representation at their call sent and request an exclusion form.
Will my farmers insurance cover my towing off the the NJ turnpike
Although I am not a Farmers insurance agent, my understanding of Farmer's Roadside Assistance program is you can either call their roadside service while your vehicle is inoperable and they will tow you up to $150 or you can be reimbursed for your troubles. However, this is all dependent on having towing and roadside on your policy.
Will insurance cover someone other than the insured?
While it can vary by company, insurance will follow the car rather than the driver. So, in the event you get into an accident in your dad's vehicle, his insurance would be primary and yours would be secondary.
