Pros and cons of Insure.com
If you want educational material and an overview to learn the basics, Insure.com has a decent quantity of researched articles to help. They not only address auto insurance but also have quality information regarding health and life insurance. But it’s not the best choice if you’re ready to purchase car insurance directly on one platform. My experience was that rates weren't available unless I went to a partner site. I was also disappointed in the number of calls and messages I received soon after inputting my basic contact information.

Like The Zebra and other similar sites, Insure.com partners with outside insurance companies, including Progressive and Direct Auto, to offer insurance quotes for its users based on their personal information. According to their website, they work with at least 85 partner companies. Based on my experience with three different ZIP codes and profiles, I never reviewed more than four results total, some of which were those of other comparison sites.
The process, however, was quick and easy. As you input your information, there are even helpful captions that explain why the site needs this information. For example, if you have multiple vehicles to insure, you could qualify for a discount.

Like all insurance comparison tools, you have to provide basic information to get a quote. The prompts are easy to follow and are most likely things you already know. For example, you'll need to provide your age and location, as well as the make and model of your vehicle.

Insurance companies look at a mix of personal details—like your age, gender, marital status, address, and driving history—to give you an accurate quote. Things like your credit scores, whether you own a home, your education level, and even your military status can also affect your rate or help you qualify for discounts.
Since your situation can change over time, it’s a good idea to shop around for quotes every six months—or any time you hit a big life event like getting married, having a birthday milestone, or moving to a new state.
Sites like Insure.com ask questions to help spot discounts you might qualify for. For example, being in the military could save you money, though not every company offers the same deals. This is where things went downhill. Despite trying three different profiles in multiple ZIP codes, I never received an actual quote.
After entering my info, I was redirected to CheaperQuotes.com—then to FastInsuranceRates.com—re-entering my details each time. Eventually, I landed on a Progressive offer, but the process felt like a loop of handoffs between third-party sites, leaving me unsure who actually had my information.
I did see “initial offers,” but they weren’t real quotes. Even when I clicked through to Progressive, I still had to re-enter info, and still didn’t get a finalized price. In one case, I was linked to four other comparison sites, including The Zebra.

How many quotes will you get?
The number of quotes you receive depends on your location and coverage level. If you live in an urban area, you'll likely get more options, and adjusting coverage can expand results. For example, changing your search from 100/300 to the state minimum might yield more quotes; however, it did not provide additional results when I adjusted the coverage options.
Because Insure.com doesn't have its own agency, you can't bind a policy through the site; that's where the partner companies, such as Progressive, take over.

Life and home insurance
Insure.com also provides tools for comparing home and life insurance, but these didn’t feel particularly robust during testing.
When I tried the life insurance tool, I received three results—none of which included actual quotes, which felt similar to the limited experience I had with the auto quote tool. The home insurance comparison was also underwhelming. The results page offered very few options, and in fact, it showed even fewer listings than what I saw when shopping for car insurance.

How does Insure.com handle your personal information?
The privacy policy from Insure.com is actually that of their parent company, QuinStreet.* The privacy policy itself is long and detailed, and is similar to those of other companies. Because of the marketplace method of comparing from multiple companies, your information will be shared with other marketing and/or insurance agencies as they seek to find the best options for you. The number of third-party companies ("Advertising Partners") is unclear and likely depends on your location and needs.

They do have a link to opt out of phone calls and text messages, which many consumers will appreciate. However, they also warn you that they are unable to remove your data from third-party sites. This seems to add a layer of complications if the customer doesn't know which third-party sites have gotten their information from Insure.com.
Since I was rerouted through multiple websites in my attempts to get a car insurance quote, I felt skeptical that my information would be protected as it was passed around.
